Andrés Pachón (1985, Madrid, Spain)

Andrés Pachón performs infographic interventions on photographic documents and original videographic. The resultant images are exhibited as a new document which purpose is to disclose the fantasy and fiction behind those supposed veridical studies. These interventions focus on the delusion contained in the European imaginary of an exotic and tribal world, but at the same time they highlight the manipulation that visual documentation can conceal and invite the spectator to reflect on the contaminated information we are exposed to.
For his last series Pachón has developed his theoretical and artistic research working with historical records from archives such as the Anthropology National Museum Documentation Department in Madrid, or the Image Centre in Lima. The resulting series question the Eurocentric outlook of these images and subtly reveal the deception enclosed in the colonial propaganda.
